ACT Residential Tenancies Act 1997 s71AE-71AF-cl74A: ss 71AE and 71AF, Sch 1 cl 74A Animals: refusal only with ACAT approval

A tenant may keep an animal; the agreement may require the lessor's prior written consent. On a written request the lessor may refuse only with ACAT's prior approval, applied for within 14 days or consent is deemed. The lessor may impose a reasonable condition about the number of animals or cleaning and maintenance, or another condition only with ACAT approval. ACAT may approve refusal or a condition only on listed grounds: the premises are unsuitable, unreasonable damage is likely, there is an unacceptable public health or safety risk, the lessor would suffer significant hardship, or it would breach a Territory law.
