A person authorised to possess a reportable substance (controlled medicine, dangerous poison, prohibited substance, schedule 10 substance or another prescribed substance) who loses it, or suspects it has been lost, must give the chief health officer a written account of the loss and its cause as soon as practicable, within 7 days of becoming aware. If it is stolen, or suspected to be, the person must notify both the chief health officer and the police orally at once and in writing within 24 hours. Each offence carries 50 penalty units, 6 months or both.
