Statement of profit or loss: categories, subtotals, line items and operating expenses (paragraphs 46 to 85) – AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements

AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements 69-74: Present operating profit or loss, profit or loss before financing and income taxes, and profit or loss as required subtotals, with the exception and labelling rule for entities that classify customer-financing liabilities in operating

What does 69-74 require?

The profit or loss statement must present three totals or subtotals: operating profit or loss (all operating category items), the pre-financing pre-tax subtotal, named 'profit or loss before financing, and before income taxes' (operating profit plus all investing items), and profit or loss (all categories). An entity that has chosen to classify in operating the effects of finance-raising liabilities unrelated to customer financing does not present the second subtotal; it must instead assess whether to insert an extra subtotal between operating profit and the financing category for a useful structured summary, and if it presents one covering operating profit plus the investing category it must not label it in a way that implies financing is excluded, labelling it instead to faithfully represent its content.
