Statement of profit or loss: categories, subtotals, line items and operating expenses (paragraphs 46 to 85) – AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements

AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements 49-51: Assess whether the entity invests in assets or provides financing to customers as a main business activity, and disclose that fact and any change in the assessment

What does 49-51 require?

To classify items between operating, investing and financing, the entity must work out whether either of two specified main business activities applies to it: investing in particular asset types, or customer financing. Where one does, some income and expenses that other entities would place in investing or financing move to the operating category. The entity must state in its disclosures which specified main business activity it has, where that is the case, and when the outcome of the assessment changes it must disclose the change and its date, and the amounts and classification of the affected items before and after the change in the current period and in the prior period, unless impracticable, in which case it must say so.
