AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements
Objective, scope and general requirements for financial statements (paragraphs 1 to 40) – AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements

AASB 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements 21-24: Build each primary statement around its mandated structure and add line items and subtotals only when they are needed for a useful structured summary and meet the four conditions

What does 21-24 require?

The structure of each primary statement is fixed by specific requirements: the category, subtotal, line item and operating expense rules for profit or loss, the comprehensive income totals, the current and non-current and equity rules for financial position, the changes in equity content, and AASB 107 for cash flows. A separately required line item may be left out of a primary statement when the statement would still give a useful structured summary without it, whatever a Standard calls it. Additional line items and subtotals must be presented when necessary for that summary, and any addition must consist of amounts recognised and measured under the Standards, fit the mandated structure, be used consistently from period to period, and never be shown more prominently than the required totals and subtotals.
