WA health entities must ensure that AI systems are not used to make unilateral decisions that affect patients or citizens or their human rights; that humans always remain in control of health care systems and clinical decisions, with AI assisting, complementing and empowering clinicians who make the final decisions; that the nature of any AI use is disclosed so patients and citizens are informed and can keep exercising their capacity for self-determination; that proposals receive ethical review by appropriate governance bodies such as Clinical Ethics Committees and Human Research Ethics Committees; and that use complies with Australia's constitutional and legislated human rights protections and international human rights obligations, the WA Public Sector Code of Ethics and MP 0124/19 Code of Conduct Policy, and professional standards of ethical practice such as the National Boards' codes of conduct.
