Participants in the Voluntary Principles Initiative are expected to promote the principles publicly, proactively implement them, attend the annual plenary (or send a proxy), communicate publicly at least annually on implementation, submit an annual report to the Secretariat by 30 April, prepare a verification presentation on operations, successes and challenges, take part in dialogue, and answer reasonable information requests from other participants. Proceedings are non-attribution and confidential, and non-adherence can lead to penalties including expulsion. These bind only members of the Initiative.
