Part 171: General information, applicability, incident reporting and international standards – US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171 to 180)

US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171 to 180) 171.2: General requirements: no offering or transporting unless the material is properly classed, described, packaged, marked, labeled and in condition for transport; no false representations (171.2)

What does 171.2 require?

Nobody may offer, and nobody may accept, a hazardous material for transportation in commerce unless it is properly classed, described, packaged, marked, labeled and in condition for shipment as the HMR require; no person may transport it unless the applicable requirements are met; and no person may represent, mark, certify or sell a packaging as meeting a DOT specification or UN standard unless it does. Every function performed under the HMR must be performed in accordance with them, and an offeror may rely on information from a prior offeror unless it knows or should know the information is wrong.
