Singapore Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003
Part 4: contracting out, documents and burden of proof – Singapore Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003

Singapore Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003 35: No contracting out of the Act and no waivers of consumer rights

What does 35 require?

The Act prevails over any agreement to the contrary: a contract term is void to the extent it is inconsistent with the Act, and any waiver or release of a right, benefit or protection under the Act is void, except a release given in genuine settlement of a dispute. Standard terms, membership agreements, warranty cards and settlement templates must be checked so that they do not purport to exclude the lemon law rights, the unfair practice provisions or cancellation rights.
