Parts 40 to 49: Tanks, forest operations, temperature extremes, materials handling and storage, battery rooms, personal protective equipment, rigging, compressed air and diving, asbestos – Prince Edward Island Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations

Prince Edward Island Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations P45: Personal protective equipment: apparel that creates no avoidable hazard, PPE maintained, pre-job instruction, user testing, CSA head, eye and face and foot protection where hazards exist, chin straps, monocular vision and contact lens rules, hand and arm protection, protection against acids, caustics, steam and abrasives, engineering controls before respirators, respirator selection, use and care to CSA Z94.4, clean-shaven seal, and posted signs on routes to hazardous atmospheres

What does P45 require?

The employer ensures workers' personal apparel does not expose them to unnecessary hazards, that protective equipment is kept in good condition, and that every worker required to use it receives pre-job instruction on its use, limitations and maintenance; workers test equipment before each use and do not use equipment they believe defective. Where head, eye or face, or foot hazards exist workers wear protection meeting CSA Z94.1-15, Z94.3-15 and Z195-14 or an equivalent standard, with chin straps in high winds, mandatory eye protection for workers with 20/200 vision or blindness in one eye, notification and restrictions on contact lenses including none while welding or where section 45.10 applies, and footwear withdrawn once it no longer protects. Hand and arm protection is worn against puncture, abrasion and irritation unless it adds hazard, and suitable protection or other means is used for acids, caustics, steam, abrasives and hot fluid jets. Where oxygen deficiency or harmful contaminants exist the employer first uses engineering means to prevent the exposure, then selects, uses and cares for respirators to CSA Z94.4-18, ensures respirator wearers are clean shaven where the seal meets the face, and posts signs on access routes to such areas stating the hazard and the protection required.
