A data subject who subscribes to a publicly available printed or electronic directory must be informed, free of charge and before inclusion, of the purpose of the directory and any further uses based on search functions embedded in electronic versions, and given a free and simple opportunity to object to such use or to request verification, confirmation or withdrawal of the information; earlier editions and pre-existing lawful inclusions are grandfathered subject to the information being given.
