Processing personal information for direct marketing by electronic communication (automatic calling machines, fax, SMS, e-mail) is prohibited unless the data subject consented or is a customer; a data subject whose consent is required and who has not previously withheld it may be approached only once to request consent, on the prescribed Form 4; a customer's details may be used only if obtained in the context of a sale, for marketing the responsible party's own similar products or services, and where the customer was given a free and simple opportunity to object at collection and on each communication; every direct marketing communication must identify the sender or the person on whose behalf it is sent and give contact details to which a request to cease may be sent.
