Every construction site organises and maintains a Rule 1040 health and safety committee and Rule 1960 medical and dental services, and may vary materials provided the structure is at least as strong as the Rule prescribes. Excavation walls deeper than one metre are supported by adequate shoring and timbering unless nobody enters, the cut is in solid rock, the walls are sloped to 45 degrees or the angle of repose, or workers are installing the shoring with precautions; shoring deeper than 6.6 metres or protecting an adjacent structure is engineer-designed and approved, no excavation near an adjacent building proceeds without protecting workers, and walls are stripped of loose rock before shoring, with the further excavation rules of Rule 1413. Scaffolds are of sound construction and material, with timber unpainted and bark removed, timber or bamboo scaffolds limited to 20 metres and engineer-designed above 10 metres, structural metal above 20 metres, and the platform, guardrail, access and inspection requirements of Rule 1414. Construction equipment and lifting appliances (Rule 1415), plant and equipment (Rule 1416), demolition and mechanical demolition (Rules 1417 and 1418) and explosives on site (Rule 1419) follow the Rule's detailed provisions.
