Control Objective 3: Keys are conveyed or transmitted in a secure manner – PCI PIN Security

PCI PIN Security 8-4: PCI PIN 8-4

What does 8-4 require?

Public keys are conveyed with their integrity and authenticity protected: in a certificate from a trusted CA meeting Annex A, with a hash validated over a separate channel, with an ISO 16609 MAC, inside an SCD, or encrypted; a self-signed certificate is never the sole authentication, and root certificates go directly into the PIN pad at manufacture, never remotely afterwards.
