Every member's leadership puts in place a company-level carbon policy and strategy, names the roles that carry it, and keeps commercial aims consistent with it. It gives carbon duties to practitioners in every discipline that touches the carbon management process, tells staff at every level, often and consistently, why carbon matters, trains people where knowledge or skill is short, and supplies enough competent people to build and run the process. It shows a commitment to keep improving by passing on current good practice inside and outside the company, fosters a culture that rewards carbon-cutting effort in its own and other firms, and weaves its carbon strategy into other business routines (asset management, risk, buying, health and safety, cost, quality, programme, sustainability, environmental management). It keeps up a consistent dialogue with other members and system stakeholders to build the joint working that system-level reductions need, draws government, regulators, local authorities and lenders into strategic delivery conversations where it can, and takes the initiative in collaborating on decarbonisation within its reach.
