Whenever work takes place on a highway, street or roadway or beside one, the employer provides and uses adequate and appropriate traffic control devices (signs, signals, markings and others) designed and used in conformity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices incorporated by reference, uses flaggers, their signalling and their warning garments in conformity with the manual, and designs and uses barricades for employee protection in conformity with it; following the current Oregon Department of Transportation temporary traffic control handbook is treated as compliance. The federal signalling and barricade sections were repealed in Oregon in favour of this rule, while the accident prevention signs and tags section (1926.200) remains adopted.
