NIST IR 8397 Guidelines on Minimum Standards for Developer Verification of Software 2.3: Run static (code-based) analysis

What does 2.3 require?

A static source code analyser is used to look for weaknesses in the code, including the weaknesses the threat model points to and questions such as whether the software always satisfies its security policy, whether important properties hold and whether some input could make it fail. Static analysis starts as soon as code is written, using tools appropriate to each language in the code base, and findings are triaged and corrected.
