NIST IR 8397 Guidelines on Minimum Standards for Developer Verification of Software 2.2: Automate verification

What does 2.2 require?

Verification is run automatically rather than by hand, so that static analysis is shown to report no new weaknesses, tests are run consistently every time, results are checked accurately, and the human effort and expertise needed is kept to a minimum. In practice this means wiring analysis and test execution into the build or continuous integration process so they run on each change.
