New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) 20.1.12.C.01: 20.1.12.C.01 Export controls for other data

For CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET and TOP SECRET systems, when agencies export data that is not highly formatted textual data, they must apply all of these controls: keyword checks; size limits; restrictions on data types; checks of protective markings; format checks and data validation; identification of unexpected attachments or embedded objects; logging of every event; and monitoring to detect overuse or unusual usage patterns.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • ISM-0669 Signature validation and keyword checks on manual exports
  • ISM-1187 Checking manual exports for unsuitable markings

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
