New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) 18.4.7.C.02: 18.4.7.C.02 Intrusion detection strategy

Agencies should create, put in place and keep up to date a strategy for intrusion detection covering: suitable intrusion detection mechanisms, with network-based and host-based IDS/IPSs where needed; audit analysis of event logs, IDS/IPS logs included; periodic audits of the intrusion detection procedures; programs for information security awareness and training; and a documented IRP.
