New York Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.15 Attorney Trust Accounts (22 NYCRR Part 1200) 1.15(f): Rule 1.15(f) Missing clients

When money is payable to a client and the lawyer cannot locate the client, the lawyer must apply to the court in which the action was brought (if in the unified court system) or otherwise to the Supreme Court in the county of the lawyer's office, for an order directing payment of the fees and disbursements owed to the lawyer and the balance, if any, to the Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection for safeguarding and payment to those entitled.
