NAIC Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Model Act (MDL-900) and Model Regulation (MDL-902) mdl902-s6-acknowledge-15-days: Acknowledge a claim within fifteen days, answer department inquiries within twenty-one days, reply to other communications within fifteen days, and send forms and assistance promptly

What does mdl902-s6-acknowledge-15-days require?

On notification of a claim the insurer must acknowledge receipt within fifteen days unless it pays within that period; an acknowledgement given other than in writing is noted and dated on the file, and notice to an agent is notice to the insurer. An inquiry from the insurance department about a claim must receive an adequate response within twenty-one days. Other pertinent communications from a claimant that reasonably call for a reply must be answered within fifteen days. On notification the insurer must promptly provide the claim forms, instructions and reasonable assistance a first party claimant needs to meet the policy's conditions and the insurer's reasonable requests; doing so within fifteen days counts as the acknowledgement.
