Italy Workers' Statute (Law 300/1970) Art. 31: Art. 31 Place workers elected to public office or senior union posts on unpaid leave of absence on request

Workers elected to the national or European Parliament or regional assemblies, or called to other elective public office, and workers called to provincial and national union posts, may on request be placed on unpaid leave of absence for the whole mandate; the periods count for pension purposes on the worker's request, and sickness benefits are kept, unless other pension and sickness cover applies.
