Reliability is the ability of a system or item to perform its required functions under stated conditions for a stated period (ISO/IEC 22989, 5.15.3). For each identified interested party the organization should analyse the foreseeable benefits and harms tied to reliability, for example: the system failing to meet its stated performance in operation; updates, data drift or concept drift pushing performance below requirements; foreseeable errors such as false positives and false negatives; and compromise of the system or its outputs by unauthorized parties leading to missed performance requirements.
