ISO/IEC 27050-4 names three items among part 3's preservation requirements and guidance that readiness supports: issuing appropriate preservation notices; procedures for suspending the destruction of ESI or of the resources that hold it; and testing technical preservation controls to confirm they work. Read with the cross-cutting aspects of 6.1.2 and the requirement pattern of 6.2.4, an auditor would expect preservation to be run by people informed of its purpose, scope and time frame, planned before it is executed, transparent enough to adjust, supported by methods and metrics, adapted as custodians and sources are added, and documented, including the release of the hold at the end.
