Investigators must report findings as fully and impartially as they can. To that end a structured approach is adopted, performed by investigators who are both competent and proficient: each source of potential digital evidence goes through examinations, each made of analyses suited to the devices and data concerned, each analysis built from validated processes (Figure 3); clauses 6 to 11 detail analysis, interpretation, reporting, competence and proficiency.
