An examination can be taken as validated when all its processes are validated, though a separate validation of the examination may be needed for extra assurance, notably where examination-specific linking steps (small transformations to feed one process's output into another) have been added; validation of an examination is made as complete as practicable. Proficiency testing (ISO/IEC 17043) can add assurance but does not replace proper assurance, because such tests exercise processes only under limited conditions.
