The organization must work out what competence is needed by the people working under its direction whose work bears on its sustainable development performance in communities, and make sure they have it through suitable education, skills, training or experience. Where relevant, it must act to build the competence required (by training, mentoring, moving people, recruiting or contracting) and check whether those actions worked, and it must keep documented evidence of competence. Once it has mapped its capabilities, it must plan training for the people responsible for putting parts of the standard into effect.
