ISO 29001:2020 7.2: Validate competence to task risk and document competence management practices

What does 7.2 require?

The organisation validates competence against the risk level of the task concerned, taking account of the ISO 9001 competence elements (determining necessary competence, ensuring it through education, training or experience, taking actions where needed and evaluating their effectiveness, retaining evidence), and maintains documented information defining the practices it uses to manage competence requirements for the personnel whose responsibilities bear on whether quality objectives are achieved. A competence model with a catalogue, proficiency levels, attainment and maintenance criteria and resulting profiles is one approach, validated through technical interviews, assessments or online training; ISO/TS 17969 gives sector guidance.
