The functional safety of the item is maintained in operation through field monitoring and the handling of field anomalies (part 2 5.4.3 requires their escalation), service and repair per the service plan with the safety-related instructions, and decommissioning per the plan; changes during these phases require a change of the release for production (part 2 7.4.2.4). Its aim, per the SGS quotation, is that functional safety is achieved during operation, service and decommissioning with the item's safety-related special characteristics taken into account.
