Clause 4: Principles – ISO 22320:2018

ISO 22320:2018 4: Principles of incident management

What does 4 require?

Whatever the incident, an organization should take eleven principles into account: ethics (incident management gives first place to human life and dignity, and acts neutrally and impartially); unity of command (at any given moment each person answers to a single supervisor); working together (organizations cooperate, clause 6); an all-hazards approach (incidents of natural or human origin, including kinds the organization has never faced); risk management as the foundation (ISO 31000); preparedness; information sharing (exchanging both information and viewpoints); safety of responders and of the people affected; flexibility (adaptability, scalability and subsidiarity); human and cultural factors; and continual improvement of how the organization performs.
