Disposition authorities regulate disposition of records. Responsibility for developing them is identified by law, regulation or policy, they are based on appraisal, and they group records into classes sharing retention periods and disposition actions, each with an identifier, description, disposition action, retention period and trigger events. They may derive from functional or sequential analysis, may include transfer instructions, are authorised, dated, implemented and regularly reviewed (with external authority authorisation in some jurisdictions), and their implementation is monitored and documented.
