Wherever a closed function presents information visually, a speech or braille route is built in, with audio from an internal speaker or a standard headset socket locatable without sight. Spoken output must be user-interruptible and repeatable where security allows, stop on new user action, describe meaningful images and needed pre-recorded video, keep masked entries and personal data private, and not be drowned by other automatic audio for more than 3 seconds. Volume must be adjustable non-visually, speaker output must reach 65 dBA without passing 85 dBA and return to default for each new user, speech must use the language on screen, errors must be announced, and everything needed to confirm a transaction must be voiced. Where an Indian language is chosen for display, spacing and fonts must keep characters legible.
