Manufacturers and retailers of food and drug products may record or listen to incoming calls on publicly listed or advertised consumer hotlines only if the recordings are destroyed, erased or turned over to local law enforcement within 24 hours of recording and are not otherwise disseminated. A business that fails to comply loses the civil and criminal immunity the exemption gives.
