Insurance finance income or expenses is the movement in carrying amount that is caused by money's time value and by financial risk, and by changes in either of them. It excludes changes for direct participation contracts that would have adjusted the CSM but did not because a loss arose or reversed; those go to insurance service expenses. B117A covers amounts arising from the B115 risk-mitigation option. For everything else the entity picks an accounting policy portfolio by portfolio: either all insurance finance income or expenses go to profit or loss, or they are split, with profit or loss taking either a systematic allocation over the group's life (B130 to B133) or, for direct participation contracts whose underlying items the entity holds, an amount that removes accounting mismatches with those items (B134 to B136), and OCI taking the remainder. Under the systematic-allocation option, amounts in OCI are recycled to profit or loss when the contracts are transferred or derecognised under paragraph 77; under the mismatch-removal option they are not. Exchange differences go wherever the related carrying amount change goes, profit or loss or OCI.
