Where contract terms change by agreement between the parties or because regulation changes, the entity removes the original contract from its books and treats the modified one as a new contract (under IFRS 17 or another Standard) only where one of these holds: had the new terms applied from inception, the contract would have fallen outside IFRS 17, would have had different components separated, would have had a boundary that differed substantially, or would have sat in another group; the contract now meets, or no longer meets, the direct participation definition; or it was accounted for under the PAA and no longer qualifies. Using a right the contract already grants does not count as a modification. A modification that meets none of these tests is treated as a revision of estimated fulfilment cash flows under paragraphs 40 to 52.
