The manufacturer deals with the risk that identification, marking and documents are hard to use through an IEC 60601-1-6 usability engineering process, checked by inspecting its results. Markings required by 7.2 to 7.6 can be read clearly from where the person carrying out the associated task is meant to stand (fixed equipment in its mounted position, transportable and non-fixed stationary equipment as normally used or once moved or turned, rack units after removal), checked with the observer at the operator's position or within a 30-degree cone at one metre, at the least favourable illuminance between 100 and 1,500 lux, with 6/6 acuity and able to read N6, and correctly reading the marking. Markings are removable only with a tool or appreciable force and durable enough to remain legible through the expected service life allowing for normal use: after the full test sequence the markings still pass the legibility test with no adhesive labels loosened or curled, and the markings of 7.2, 7.4, 7.5 and 7.6 survive rubbing by hand for 15 s each with cloths soaked in distilled water, 96 percent ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.
