Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (UK) p12acquire: Duty to notify and obtain approval before acquiring or increasing control

A person must give the regulator notice before acquiring control, or increasing control past the statutory thresholds, over a UK authorised person, and must not complete the acquisition or increase until approved, per ss 178, 179, 185 and 187; the regulator decides having regard to the acquirer's reputation, financial soundness and the firm's continued ability to satisfy the threshold conditions. Acting without approval, or in contravention of a regulator-imposed condition, is an offence under s 191F.
