Before transport the generator must mark each package under the DOT rules in 49 CFR part 172 and mark each container of 119 gallons or less, per 49 CFR 172.304, with: "HAZARDOUS WASTE, Federal Law Prohibits Improper Disposal. If found, contact the nearest police or public safety authority or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency"; the generator's name and address; its EPA identification number; the manifest tracking number; and the EPA hazardous waste number(s). The waste numbers may be conveyed by a nationally recognised electronic system such as bar coding. Lab packs to be incinerated under 268.42(c) need not carry waste numbers except D004 to D008, D010 and D011 where applicable.
