Each hazard is controlled by apportioning its tolerable hazard rate to the safety-related functions that can cause it (their tolerable functional failure rates) and to the items implementing those functions (their failure rates), taking account of the architecture, common-cause failures, detection and negation, and the barriers outside the electronic system; the apportionment is recorded and demonstrated in the technical safety report.
