Safety integrity is the likelihood of a safety-related function achieving its required safety features in all the stated conditions over a stated period; it has a random-failure aspect, controlled by the tolerable functional failure rate and demonstrated by the fault analyses of Annex B, and a systematic aspect, controlled by the quality and safety management processes of clause 5 and the techniques and measures of Annex E, the two combined into one safety integrity level per function.
