Lineage reporting and visualization requirements, including granularity and metadata augmentation and labelling, are documented and approved; visualizations are produced automatically from authoritative lineage metadata; they can be enriched with further metadata, for example ownership or quality metrics; reports and visualizations give a full history of key activities as at any point in time; lineage is represented consistently across tools and discovery methods; and access to lineage reporting follows an approved policy applied on-premises and in the cloud. Reports serve owners and stewards at summary (systems) and detail (fields, transformations, history) levels, let users toggle between technical and business lineage, compare versions and recreate lineage at a past point in time, are always on and recoverable, and are supported by training in reading them.
