Automated functionality identifies processes that move data (ETL, ELT, intentional duplication, data delivery, streaming) and records lineage metadata for them; auto-discovery picks up data crossing jurisdictions, physical boundaries and availability zones, and moving between hybrid and multi-cloud environments; and processes review the auto-discovered lineage. Discovery draws on provider services and third-party tools, logs, existing documentation and cataloged metadata, uses machine learning to flag discovered lineage that conflicts with documented lineage, reconciles results with current metadata through an automated quality assessment, and records every facet reporting and visualization will need. Where flows are moved from on-premises without re-engineering, their lineage metadata is loaded with the data.
