When the landlord's interest in the premises ends (sale, assignment, death, receivership or otherwise), the landlord or its agent within a reasonable time either transfers the remaining security (after lawful deductions under (e)) to the successor in interest and then notifies the tenant, by personal delivery (with the tenant's signed acknowledgment) or first-class mail, of the transfer, any claims made against the security, the amount deposited and the successors' names, addresses and telephone numbers; or returns the remaining security to the tenant with an accounting as in (h). Either step relieves the landlord of further liability for the security.
