Australia Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002
Schedule 1 Part 1: general essential principles (clauses 1 to 6) – Australia Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002

Australia Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002 sch1-6: Essential principle 6: the benefits of using the device for its intended performance must outweigh any undesirable effects

What does sch1-6 require?

The benefit gained from using the device for the performance the manufacturer intends must be greater than any undesirable effects of its use. Side effects and adverse outcomes are weighed in the clinical evaluation, which regulation 3.11 requires to demonstrate this principle in particular, and the conclusion must be revisited as post-market data arrives.
