Part 3.12: General provisions relating to the assets test (disregarded assets, income streams, encumbrances, disposal of assets, financial hardship) – Australia Social Security Act 1991 (Age Pension: qualification, income test and assets test)

Australia Social Security Act 1991 (Age Pension: qualification, income test and assets test) 1119-1122: Valuation of income streams, encumbrances and loans

What does 1119-1122 require?

Asset-tested income streams that are not defined benefit, lifetime or family-law affected streams are valued by the purchase price less the deductible amount for the commutations and the elapsed term formula in section 1119; defined benefit income streams are valued under section 1120 and lifetime streams under section 1120AA and following (with the 60 per cent and 30 per cent assessment from the threshold day); the value of an asset is reduced by a charge or encumbrance over that asset other than one over the principal home or a disregarded asset (section 1121); and the value of a loan made by the person is the amount outstanding, with no reduction for doubtful recovery unless the hardship rules apply (section 1122).
