General Practice Standard 1 Access to care – Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition) GP1.3: Care outside of normal opening hours: patients are told how to obtain after-hours care, and they can access it, whether the practice provides it, shares it with other practices or formally arranges a medical deputising service

What does GP1.3 require?

Illness does not keep office hours. The practice ensures that care is available to its patients when it is closed, by providing it directly, by a cooperative arrangement with other practices, or by a formal agreement with an accredited medical deputising service, and that the after-hours provider reports back on care given so the record stays complete. Patients are told, in the practice information, on the website and on the phone message, how to reach after-hours care and when to call 000.
