General Practice Standard 1 Access to care – Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition) GP1.1: Responsive system for patient care: the practice offers different consultation types to match patients' needs, runs a triage system so urgent needs are recognised and prioritised, and its recorded phone message tells callers to ring 000 in an emergency

What does GP1.1 require?

Patients need to be seen in the right way at the right time. The practice provides a range of consultation types, for example standard and long appointments, same-day urgent slots, telehealth, nurse appointments and planned chronic disease reviews, so that need rather than the booking template drives care. It has a documented triage system that staff who take calls and greet patients can apply, with clear criteria for what is urgent and how to escalate to a clinician immediately. The recorded message patients hear when phoning advises them to call 000 in an emergency.
