Core Standard 2 Rights and needs of patients – Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) C2.3: Accessibility of services: patients with disabilities or special needs can use the service, through physical access to any clinic, communication aids, home visits and reasonable adjustments

What does C2.3 require?

The service removes the barriers it can. A clinic considers physical access to the building, consulting rooms and toilets, parking and signage, and offers a home visit or telehealth where premises cannot be adapted. Communication needs, cognitive impairment, mental health and frailty are considered in call handling and consultation practices. Staff know how to respond when a patient or carer describes a need.
