Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) C2.2: Presence of a third party during a consultation: the service seeks and records the patient's prior consent whenever it brings a third party such as a student, driver, observer or interpreter into a consultation

What does C2.2 require?

A consultation is private, in a clinic or a lounge room. Before a student, a driver or chaperone employed by the service, another observer or an interpreter the service has arranged takes part in a consultation, the patient is told who the person is and why and is given a real chance to decline; the consent is recorded. Patients may have their own support person present without this process.
